The Use of Glutathione in Other Disease Conditions



Macular Degeneration: IV GSH has been used to not only stop, but also reverse, macular degeneration.

Diabetes: IV and oral glutathione has been used to treat diabetes.

Emphysema (COPD): Inhaled glutathione has been used with striking and dramatic results for patients with emphysema.

ARDS (Adult Respiratory Distress Syndrome): One university in Georgia is using inhaled GSH to treat ARDS patients in its emergency room.

Infant (or Idiopathic) Respiratory Distress Syndrome: This infant version of ARDS has also been treated with inhaled GSH.

Cirrhosis of the Liver: Liver cirrhosis and other chronic liver diseases have been treated with oral and IV glutathione.

Radiation Poisoning/ Cancer Treatment: IV GSH is a standard treatment for radiation poisoning. Thus, it can also be used in cancer treatment to offset the cytotoxicity of radiation therapy.

Parkinson's Disease: IV GSH has also been used to treat Parkinson's with some success.

Crohn's Disease and Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS): Oral GSH has been used to reduce inflammation of the gut present in these diseases.

Autism: Both IV and oral GSH has been used to treat autism.

Cachexia: General wasting away, called cachexia, is a frequent result of diseases such as cancer and AIDS. Oral GSH has been used to increase nutrient absorption, and thus weight gain, in such persons. In fact, there is an FDA-approved orphan drug called Cachexon, which is basically 500 mg of encapsulated GSH which is used to treat AIDS-related cachexia.
